I needed a decent rain jacket for an event I was attending where the weather had a high chance of rain. I've never owned anything from Columbia, so thought I'd try them out and am happy I did. This rain jacket IS waterproof. If you have it zipped up properly and the cuffs tightened up, you're not going to get wet from rain.However, you will probably get damp from sweat. This jacket does not breathe as good as I'd like, but with that comes a reduction in water resistance I feel. If you're going to be outside ALL DAY, expect to get damp from sweat. For runs to the mailbox, taking the dog out, etc., this rain jacket will serve you very well.It fit just slightly big on me. I wear a 3X in t-shirts, and bought the 2X size jacket. I purchased this jacket to replace a 20+ year old REI rainjacket that was starting to delaminate/disintegrate on the interior. This jacket does a good job of shedding water. I have not used it in a heavy downpour but it worked well in the light/moderate rain situation I was in. I wish it had an internal hanger loop (elastic/fabric loop near the neck) for hanging it on a hook.I am 5'6" at 160lbs. I typically wear a small or medium, depending on the style/manufacturer. I bought both sizes and thought the small fit just fine but wouldn't allow me much room for anything heavier than a long sleeve shirt without being a little snug. They look great and always feel light while keeping me dry in the heaviest of rain storms.I've found that these jackets run on the larger size, but that's okay in this case because typically you will be wearing it over your existing layers. The material that this jacket is made out of feels light while you wear it and doesn't add extra heat to your layers. I've worn this jacket in the spring, summer, and fall and it always feels great without making me overheat. However, in the summer the jacket can keep in humidity underneath, so often times I have to unzip it or take it off. I had tried this jacket on in a local store and found it on Amazon for a much lower price. I needed a rain jacket for my vacation to Europe. In the Netherlands and Belgium during the month of May it is cool and it will rain intermittently. During the day it would be cloudy, then rainy for an hour, then maybe sunny in the late afternoon. It was totally unpredictable. The rains were moderate in intensity and this jacket withstood all of the resulting moisture. I liked the hood that could be rolled up and packed into the back when it was not raining. The hood was very protective making an umbrella unnecessary during my trip. The jacket is also very stylish.
