Sedgehammer Nutsedge Herbicide is a selective lawn weed killer for nutsedge, the weed that keeps coming back from underground nuts. Its active ingredient, 75% halosulfuron-methyl, is absorbed by the leaves within 24 to 48 hours and moves down to the growing point and into the rhizomes, tubers and nutlets. Leaves usually turn yellow in 10 to 14 days and the plant dies about 2 weeks later, so full results take 3 to 4 weeks. This water dispersible granule concentrate has a very low use rate. Add one level 0.9 gram scoop of the included spoon and 2 teaspoons of non-ionic surfactant to 1 gallon of water to treat 1,000 sq ft. Surfactant is not included but is needed: it helps the spray get through the waxy nutsedge leaf. Use one with at least 80% active ingredient and no more than directed, since extra surfactant can injure turf. One 1.33 oz bottle makes about 40 gallons of spray for large lawns, acreage and professional turf work. Beyond purple and yellow nutsedge, it controls green and annual kyllinga, rice flatsedge and broadleaf weeds such as ragweed, pigweed, wild mustard, galinsoga, fleabane, velvetleaf and cocklebur, and suppresses several more. It also controls horsetail at a higher labeled rate. Use it on established warm and cool season turf, including St. Augustine, Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede, Bahia, Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue. It is labeled for home lawns, landscaped areas around established woody ornamentals, golf courses (not putting greens), sod farms, sports fields, school grounds, public recreation areas, cemeteries and roadsides. Do not spray over the top of flowers, vegetables, shrubs or trees. Treat nutsedge that emerged in the last 6 weeks, while it is actively growing. Watering in is not needed. Overseed with ryegrass or Bermuda 2 weeks later. One application often does the job. For heavy stands, repeat after 6 to 10 weeks, up to 4 times a year. Made in the USA.
