The harp is often called 'the instrument of angels,' and Bronn's amazing versatility and skill on this ancient instrument along with Katherine's radiant voice will transport you to the gates of heaven itself! Thirty-two years ago, a volunteer with the Seattle Public Schools placed a harp in Bronn's hands for the first time and began teaching the 11 year old boy how to play. He advanced rapidly, and soon moved on to study with harpist Edith Lundgren. By the time he was 16, he was performing professionally in fine hotels and restaurants in the Seattle area. After high school, Bronn was accepted to the School of Music at the University of Washington where he received instruction from Pamela Vokelek. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1985. Katherine, a native of Calgary, Canada, began her musical training at age 8 with piano lessons after school. She continued taking lessons through high school and college, graduating from Dordt College in Iowa with a degree in Music Education in 1982. Katherine's solo voice training began in 1984, when she auditioned for and received the opportunity to study voice at the Music School at Arizona State University. She studied under Darlene Kliewer and graduated in 1987 with a Masters degree in Vocal Performance. Today, The Journey's musical accomplishments are well known and appreciated throughout Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. They have performed extensively in Washington, California, Oregon, Montana and Idaho. Their concert schedule has also taken them north into Western Canada. Bronn has even played the National Anthem at Seattle Seahawk and Sonics sporting events! Bronn's dazzling virtuosity and humorous approach to a seriously classical instrument have made him a favorite with concert goers. 'Because of the experience of playing in a variety of settings, I am very comfortable playing in many different styles,' comments Bronn. Classical, Sacred, Broadway and Popular tunes all flow effortlessly from the strings of his harp, and Katherine's beautifully expressive interpretations of the songs she sings delight their audiences. Seventeen albums are currently available on the Journeys' own label, 'Phileo Music.' They are sold in fine gift shops across the US and Canada and CD Baby and our web site. When first introduced to the idea of a harp and voice concert, many audiences may respond by asking, 'The harp? Isn't that what cherubs play?' The answer in Bronn's case is - 'Perhaps! But do cherubs play everything from Classics to Folk to Broadway?' Even though he's not a cherub, Bronn delivers a widely varied repertoire with wit and humor while Katherine joins him in glorious song.
